Thing 4/5 RSS Feeds

OK... I've seen the "feeds" icon in my favorites section of IE, but never got around to figuring it out.  Now that I've worked my way through it, I don't really see the big deal.  I guess I feel more comfortable, just bookmarking my favorites and being updated that way rather than through the feeds.  Maybe I'm a techno "old fart" but it's just the way that works better for me.

BTW, I've got to say that is really frustrating to try to do the 23 things at school when so much of it is dependent on watching videos, which are block for streaming.  I'd prefer to do it at school away from the home distractions, but unfortunately can't.  This is something that is a problem for us teaching with technology... When I can't link to a video, because the kids can't watch it, it eliminates a good educational portion of the Internet.  Any ideas for "legal" workarounds?

  1. If you ever have students who have blogs you want to follow, you can go to one site (like Bloglines) and find out who has updated their blogs. It saves quite a bit of time since you don't have to go to each blog separately. I have the 23 participants' blogs listed in a Bloglines folder.

More about handling videos to show to students coming up in Things 9 and 10, but no help with streaming video on the spot during the day at school.

  2. Hola Geeker Teacher!! I second your concern about some of the new technology being blocked at school. I have had to bring in my own personal computer to show some things to my class that otherwise wouldn't be possible. Sometimes using technology can be time consuming and this just adds to it. I hope there is a good solution coming soon!!

  3. My computer tech just sent me instructions on home to save videoa to a jump drive at home and then bring them to school to avoid the streaming issue. Not a perfect solution, but it is something. You would think that there would be someway to allow staff to access streaming video. There is so much we miss out on. Not everyone can work at home!
